#RCOServiceChallenge: Tissue Donation

In Ontario, the registration form used for Organ & Tissue donation is one and the same. The registration provides the option to opt out of either form of donation. We explained the registration process in-depth in last week’s blog post.

If the process is the same, why are there fewer tissue donors in the province than organ donors?

Your cornea donation could restore sight to someone who has lost it. Your skin donation can help a burn victim recover. Your heart valve donation can save an infant born with heart defects. Your tendon donation can help reattach someone’s bone and muscle.

Each of these donations could forever change someone’s life and your pledge to donate tissue can impact up to seventy-five people.

Don’t forget to inform your family and friends of your decision. If your family and friends are aware of your choice, this may reduce the time it takes to verify your status as a donor and reduce the total time needed to act on your request to be an organ/tissue donor.

Go to https://www.beadonor.ca/ to find out more, register and check your registration status. If you can, please sign up to be a tissue donor.
