Rotaract X UOSU 101week Event Reflection

Good morning, I hope everyone’s first week back to school (or work) went well. This is a weird time for everyone right now, including us. With meetings and events being online it provides us a unique and unusual opportunity to do things we wouldn’t have come up with otherwise. This year we partnered with UOSU (University of Ottawa’s Student Union) to facilitate an online 101week event. After much deliberation back in July we came up with an idea to do sort of a question and answer period via Zoom.

For those that did not attend or hear about it, we hosted 4 different sessions each with a different topic including, Ask an Upper Year, Life on the Hill, Rotaract/Rotary – Get involved and How to Survive Online Classes. We had Rotaractors present their information and answer any questions the students had. This was a great way to break the barrier, get our name out there and provide a fellowship experience for the participants that would have otherwise not met (due to lack of in person interactions). While setting up our plans for the event we had some miscommunication which got us off to a rocky start, however we managed to pull through. While we may have lost out on some potential participants, we still got to have some great conversations with those that did attend and even some new potential members (which is always great!).

Even though there were a few hiccups along the way and room for improvement, I am proud of myself and my club for pulling off a great event in the midst of these unpresented times (Though full disclosure I may be a little biased since I spear headed this event lol). For future online events I feel we could have better communication in the planning stages and also better promotions, but there is always room for growth

Don’t forget to sign up to our email list (at the bottom of our website) if you want to know about future posts and event information. We also have our first meeting next Sunday Sept. 20th at 6pm, via Zoom (Email or DM us for meeting link or fill out our membership application (above under the member tab) so you can be added to our slack and get the link)

Until next time,
Tori
